14 May 2026 Partners’ Meeting

On 14 May 2026, representatives of the PROFIŽEL and VRT CZ projects met with the senior management of Správa železnic, the Czech railway infrastructure manager, at The Julius Hotel in Prague. The discussions focused on strategic changes that will directly affect the Czech railway industry in the coming years.

The key topics discussed included:

Procurement by Specialist Discipline: Správa železnic is introducing a new approach to major contracts worth billions of Czech koruna, with construction works being clearly separated from technological systems, such as signalling and electrification. The aim is to increase transparency and reduce costs.

Stable Funding and a Predictable Project Pipeline: Správa železnic has a budget of CZK 71.2 billion for 2026. A key priority for us remains greater predictability in the project pipeline, enabling domestic companies to plan their capacity and investments effectively. In addition to funding from the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI), the use of the Modernisation Fund and public-private partnership (PPP) models is also being considered.

Introduction of the BIM Standard: From January 2027, the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) will be mandatory for selected above-threshold public contracts. Správa železnic is currently refining its data standards and has assured us that the requirements will not be designed in a discriminatory manner.

Protecting Czech Expertise and Know-How: We openly expressed concerns about below-cost pricing by foreign competitors and the bureaucratic barriers that make it more difficult for Czech companies to enter certain European markets, including Germany.
